We’ve got less than a week before we host the 28th Annual Sight & Sole WalkFest at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs. The event will be presented for a second consecutive year by Publix Super Markets Charities. If you're on Facebook, we’ve created a Facebook event here.

New Lighthouse Works Business Line A Timely Addition
 

Volunteer leaders are essential ambassadors that help carry the message and mission of a particular cause. Lighthouse is honored to have a dedicated group of volunteers who selflessly go the extra mile, giving of their time, talent and even treasure to ensure issues related to Central Florida's blind and visually impaired are properly elevated in the community and that our clients receive the highest quality service.

One such volunteer leader is Justine Siergey, a 29 year-old optometrist who serves on Lighthouse's Young Executives Committee as co-chair and chairs the Logistics committee for Lighthouse's Sight & Sole WalkFest.

White Cane Day 2016
 

Last summer, our adult services supervisor, Judy Mathews, penned an opinion piece in the Orlando Sentinel, as a way to educate and inform the public about state and federal laws governing public accommodations for individuals using service animals because of a disability.

Judy wrote this piece after dealing with a series of denial of service incidents by ride share drivers (Uber & Lyft tech platforms) who refused her as a passenger because she was traveling with her guide dog, Keats...

Date:  Saturday, March 4, 2017

Time:  Registration at 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
          Kick Off at 4:00 p.m.
          WalkFest at 4:15 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Location:  Cranes Roost Park at Uptown Altamonte
274 Cranes Roost Blvd, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701

Parking:

A. Next to the AMC Altamonte Mall 18 on the corner of Festival Drive and Cranes Roost Blvd.

Access Lynx:

If you’re taking Access Lynx, please ask to be dropped off close to Café Murano located at 309 Cranes Roost Blvd, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. There will be a police officer there patrolling the barricade and will allow Access Lynx to enter and drop you off. There will be volunteers there if you need any assistance.

 

Shop SPREE at the 5th Annual Consignment Sale

Date: March 31st- April 1st 

Time: 10 a.m. -5 p.m. 

Location: Venue on the Lake at the Maitland Civic Center; 641 S. Maitland Avenue

Hosted by "Women with a Vision" for Lighthouse Central Florida: All proceeds benefit the Early Intervention program at Lighthouse supporting children with low vision or blindness.
