Dear Friends:

Lighthouse staffer, Maria [left] embraces graduate from recent Foundations of Daily Living courseSeptember marks Hispanic Heritage Month. It's a time to recognize the history and cultural contributions of our Latinix neighbors--while celebrating our shared values.

I wanted to use this opportunity to introduce you to Maria Saavedra--a staffer at Lighthouse Central Florida responsible for coordinating vision rehabilitation care for over 200 of our community's senior citizens each year.

As a care coordinator, Maria helps each client formulate a customized care plan based on their individual needs.

By sharing her own personal journey with vision loss, Maria finds that she is able to better connect with her clients.Lighthouse staffer, Maria [far left], poses with Lighthouse Academy students following a lesson on dance

Originally from Bogota, Colombia, Maria maintains a deep passion for performing and teaching traditional folk dance around Central Florida with a troupe she founded.

Maria has even helped incorporate dance into lesson plans for our younger, school-aged clients.
