Dear Friends:

I hope you all are enjoying the summer months and finding a cool way to beat the heat!

The past couple months have been eventful and full of promise. Recent developments have shown us that we are gaining traction in promoting our mission and building a strong community of constituents and stakeholders who are better educated about the importance of vision rehabilitation to maintaining or increasing the quality of life of persons who have lost or are losing their vision.

In an attempt to better educate eye care professionals about the efficacy of low-vision rehabilitation, a panel discussion on the role of physician referral took place during the weekend of June 8th and featured prominently at the Florida Society of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology 2018. The conference was convened at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes.

New Lighthouse Works Business Line A Timely Addition

Youth Services Manager, Heather Willenbacher, recently accompanied a group of teens from Lighthouse’s Transition program to Seaworld’s Discovery Cove. What follows is Heather’s summary of the day trip with an outline of critical learning objectives.

Last September the Supply Chain team at Lighthouse Works reached a significant milestone when they assembled their 1-millionth MagicBand Box for Walt Disney World. MagicBands are colorful, waterproof wristbands—resembling a watch or bracelet—that Disney patrons can quickly and easily touch to a sensor to digitally access the theme park’s plans and vacation choices.

Lighthouse recently received a $3000 grant to landscape and beautify the grounds at their College Park location on New Hampshire Street. The funds were disbursed from BB&T Bank as part of a volunteer project initiated by three of the bank’s branches in Central Florida.
